Understanding Your Child’s Elementary School Math
The Stratford Public Library hosts Rhonda Hewer, a math educator for over 18 years. Her workshops were developed out of many conversations with parents and guardians about “the way they are teaching math these days”. Parents expressed feeling frustrated, confused, worried and intimidated as their children come home using a plethora of drawings and unfamiliar strategies to solve problems, some problems so foreign that parents say they feel as if they are speaking a different language from their children.
During this one hour talk, parents will gain a glimpse into:
1. How children are learning mathematics today (grades 5-8)
2. Why learning mathematics through this approach is beneficial
3. How you can help your child succeed by supporting the math they are learning at home
